Meet School Chef of the Year finalist, Kirsty McAndrew
Kirsty McAndrew was the winner of the Yorkshire and Humberside heat of School Chef of the Year. She served up a beef suet pudding, with Asian infused beetroot, carrot puree, duchesse potatoes and a thyme and balsamic sauce & caramel orange butternut squash sponge, chocolate ice cream, flapjack crumb, salted butternut squash crisp, strawberry coulis. When planning this dish, she knows how popular pie and gravy is with the children in Yorkshire and so created her own version.
Kirsty loves the challenge of catering for so many different children’s needs and in particular the nusery children. When she heard her name revealed as the winner she found it overwhelming and had a feeling of total excitement as she did this for her school as much as herself.
In her menu Kirsty uses McDougalls Flapjack and Plain Sponge Mixes, Angel Delight Chocolate, McDougalls Suet Pastry Mix. She finds all these products versatile and easy to use.
