Premier Foods Foodservice creates a range of recipes fit for the new King

In May, we are all going to witness one of the biggest events we have seen for generations, with the Coronation of HRH King Charles set to take place on Saturday the 6th at Westminster Abbey in London. Events like this bring people together to celebrate a historic moment. Food is often at the centre of these events and incorporating royal themes into the menu can help create a celebratory atmosphere.

HRH King Charles is reported to be passionate about organic and locally sourced foods, traditional British cuisine, Mediterranean dishes, and seasonal fruits and vegetables. To showcase some of his favourite foods, chefs should explore seasonal ingredients to create fresh and flavourful dishes.

In May, there are various fruits and vegetables that are in season in the UK so ideal for planning Coronation
menus. Here are some examples:

Seasonal Fruits

Strawberries
Cherries
Rhubarb
Gooseberries
Blackcurrants
Redcurrants
Elderflowers

Seasonal Vegetables

Asparagus
Broad beans
Peas
Radishes
Lettuce and other salad greens
New potatoes
Spring onions
Spinach
Watercress

Please note that the availability of seasonal produce can vary depending on factors such as weather conditions and region, so this list is not exhaustive and may not apply to all parts of the UK.

Our chefs have been working hard to create a range of dishes that you could serve up for the event.  Here are some recipe ideas you could use on your own menus.

Bisto Venison and Black Pudding Pies

Venison is often associated with aristocracy and Royalty due to their historic love of game meat. This dish incorporates a nod to the royals of the past, but also King Charles’ love for not wasting food. Black pudding is a great example of a nose to tail dish.

Paxo Sausage Crown

Our Paxo Sausage Crown will be a perfect centrepiece for any Coronation celebration buffet.  It can be shared by families and friends as they come together to celebrate such a historic occasion.

Lamb and Hasselback Potato Skewers with Sharwood’s Coronation Dip

King Charles is known to champion products from the United Kingdom.  This is a modern recipe using seasonal new potatoes and British lamb. Create these lightly spiced minced lamb meat balls skewered with new potatoes and roasted, served with our very own Sharwood’s Coronation sauce dip.

Smash Croquettes with Spring Vegetable Homepride Cream Cheese and Tomato Dip

HRH King Charles is known for championing seasonal produce, and this is a wonderful crafted recipe using carefully selected spring vegetables. It is a great party platter, full of colour from the vegetables, with crisp croquettes filled with a beautiful creamy filling.

Homepride Tomato Chargrilled Vegetable and Asparagus Arancini Balls

HRH King Charles is known to love Mediterranean cuisine so why not serve up this arancini to celebrate? This is a good spring buffet item, or you could add it to your menu as a starter. The asparagus season is a wonderful time of the year, and this is a light and tasty way to serve it. You can make it with extra asparagus and a pool of warm Homepride Chargrilled Tomato Sauce

McDougalls Jelly Whip Dessert Crowned with Jewelled Fruit

Families and friends will come together for the Coronation, and this is a dish that will appeal to all ages. This light and airy jelly whip dessert is topped with colourful fruit jewels to represent the crown. You can make with any of the great flavours from McDougalls, but we have made it with blackcurrant and orange.

Angel Delight Strawberry and Lime Dessert Pots with Lime Shortbread Crowns

We are crowning a family favourite for the occasion, Angel Delight, which is served up with a beautiful shortbread crown with an added zesty zing.

All these recipe ideas incorporate seasonal ingredients and reflect some of King Charles’ reported favourite foods while keeping the Coronation theme in mind. We’d love to see what you serve up using our products. You can tag us in your social media posts using @PremierFoods_FS.
