Bisto Beef Pot Roast

Ingredients

3kg silverside of beef joint
1 tsp black pepper, cracked
1 tsp paprika
20g Bisto Beef Bouillon Paste
1l boiling water
400g onion, diced
400g carrot, diced
400g swede, 10mm dice
75g Bisto Reduced Salt Gravy Granules
250g onion, finely chopped
For the Dumplings
10ml olive oil
250g onion, diced
5g mustard powder
560g McDougalls Self Raising Flour
275g Atora Beef Suet
1 tbs fresh chives, chopped
5g horseradish sauce (*check for allergens)
25ml cold water

Method

Step one

Combine the pepper & paprika and rub the spice mix mixture to cover the beef.

Step two

Make up the Bisto Beef Bouillon Paste as per instructions on the pack.

Step three

In an ovenproof dish, combine the seasoned beef with the diced onion and Bouillon.

Step four

Cover the dish and cook on the stove on a low heat, stirring occasionally, for 2 hours, or until meat is tender.

Step five

Add the carrots and after 5 minutes add the swede and continue cooking.

Step six

Sprinkle in the Bisto Reduced Salt Gravy Granules and stir until thickened.

Step seven

For the Dumplings

Fry 250g onion in the oil until brown and caramelised, then allow to cool.

Step eight

Sieve the mustard powder and flour together.

Step nine

Add the Atora Beef Suet, chives, horseradish and cooked onion, and season with salt & pepper.

Step ten

Sprinkle the water over all the ingredients and mix, adding a little more water if required, until all the mixture comes together to form a dough.

Step eleven

Divide the mixture into 20 and roll each one into a round ball, cover and allow to rest in the fridge for approx. 30 minutes.

Step twelve

Place the dumplings into the pot roast approximately 20 minutes before serving.
